Gift 和 present 都表示送给别人的礼物，大多数情况下可以互换，例如 a birthday present、a birthday gift。Present 更日常，gift 稍正式，也常见于商店和服务名称。只有 gift 还表示与生俱来的才能。

修改前I bought my brother a present card for his favourite bookshop.
修改后I bought my brother a gift card for his favourite bookshop.
Present 可能是首先想到的“礼物”，因此容易拼出 present card。但在商店的固定表达里，用的是 gift：gift card、gift shop、gift wrapping。礼品卡不叫 present card。
Gift 还可以表示天赋：She has a gift for languages。Present 没有这个意思。不过 present 也有另一个含义，即现在：Let's focus on the present, not the past。
