修改前I wrote down for an English course that starts in October.
修改后I signed up for an English course that starts in October.
报名似乎也是把名字写进课程名单，但 write down 只表示记录信息。把自己加入参与者名单，要用 sign up for：signed up for a course。预约看医生也不是 write down，而是 make an appointment。
不带 down 的 write 可以表示创作文本，例如 write an email、write an essay。Write down 强调把听到或看到的内容记下来，例如 write down the address。录音或录像用 record：I recorded the lecture on my phone。
