कोर्स की सूची में नाम जुड़ने में लिखने की क्रिया हो सकती है, लेकिन रजिस्ट्रेशन कराने का अंग्रेज़ी रूप sign up for है: signed up for a course. डॉक्टर से मिलने का समय तय करना make an appointment है। Write down केवल जानकारी लिखने को बताता है।
Write किसी पाठ की रचना करना भी है: write an email, write an essay. Write down जानकारी नोट करने पर ज़ोर देता है: write down the address. Record आवाज़ या वीडियो रिकॉर्ड करना हो सकता है: I recorded the lecture on my phone. अन्य संदर्भों में record लिखित जानकारी दर्ज करना भी बताता है।

wrote down — यहाँ फ़ोन से रिकॉर्डिंग के बजाय मुख्य बातें हाथ से लिखी गई हैं, इसलिए wrote down अधिक सीधा और स्पष्ट है। Recorded का अर्थ लिखित रूप में दर्ज करना भी हो सकता है, लेकिन इस वाक्य के उपकरण वाले संदर्भ में wrote down बेहतर अंतर दिखाता है।
काम या पढ़ाई में ज़रूरी बातें याद रखने का तरीका बताएँ। लिखें कि कौन सी जानकारी नोट करते हैं और कहाँ रखते हैं।
