It、them 等代词放在 look 和 up 之间：look it up。普通名词则有两种顺序：look up the word 和 look the word up。虽然把宾语放在末尾看起来合理，但代词不能写成 look up it。
Look for 表示寻找丢失或尚未找到的东西：I'm looking for my keys。Look up 则是从词典、时刻表或搜索引擎中查询具体信息。找丢失的钥匙不用 look up。
