More or less 可以表示几乎，也可以表示大约。前一种用法让判断不那么绝对，例如工作差不多做完、两个人的喜好基本相同。后一种用法放在数字旁，表示只是约数：three hours, more or less。

More or less 容易被当成“一般般、还行”，但它并不直接评价好坏，而是修饰 finished 或 the same 等内容，不能在这句里的 was 后单独作评价。要表达不算好、也不算坏，可以用 so-so。
More or less 可以单独回答是非问句：Did you understand the lecture? — More or less，表示大部分理解了。但 How was the lecture? 问的是评价，不能这样回答；可以说 so-so 或 not bad。
