IELTS-এ পরিবার দৈনন্দিন জীবনের খুব পরিচিত বিষয়, আর সেই কারণেই এখানে নম্বর কমে যায়। Writing Task 2-তে জানতে চাওয়া হতে পারে শিশুর ওপর বাবা-মা না স্কুলের প্রভাব বেশি; বয়স্ক মানুষ ক্রমে সন্তানদের সঙ্গে না থেকে care home-এ থাকছেন—এটি ভালো কি না; কিংবা উন্নত দেশের মানুষ কম সন্তান নিচ্ছেন কেন। Speaking Part 3-তে পরীক্ষক জানতে পারেন সাম্প্রতিক দশকে পরিবার কীভাবে বদলেছে এবং সন্তান বড় করার কাজে বাবাদের মায়েদের সমানভাবে যুক্ত থাকা উচিত কি না। Mother ও children-এর মতো সহজ শব্দ যথেষ্ট নয়। পরিবারের ধরন, সন্তান বড় করা, প্রজন্ম এবং কাজ ও ঘরের ভারসাম্য নিয়ে collocation দরকার।
এই বিষয়ের প্রধান ফাঁদ সন্তান বড় করার ক্রিয়ায়। অনেক শিক্ষার্থী educate ব্যবহার করেন, কারণ অনেক ভাষায় একই ক্রিয়া দিয়ে পড়ানো ও লালনপালন বোঝায়। কিন্তু সামগ্রিকভাবে সন্তান বড় করা হলো bring up বা raise children, আর আচরণ শেখানো হলো teach children to…। দ্বিতীয় ফাঁদ elder: বয়স্ক মানুষদের একটি গোষ্ঠী হিসেবে বলতে হয় elderly people বা older people, elder people নয়।

সাধারণ ভুল
Parents should teach their children respect other people.
সঠিক: Parents should teach their children to respect other people. কাউকে কী করতে শেখানো হচ্ছে তা বলতে teach someone to do something দরকার: teach children to respect others। সামগ্রিকভাবে সন্তান বড় করা হলো bring up বা raise। ক্রিয়াটি সম্পর্কে আরও দেখুন bring up অনুশীলনে।
Elder people should live with their children, not in care homes.
সঠিক: Elderly people অথবা Older people should live with their children. Elder মূলত পরিবারের মধ্যে বয়সের ক্রম বোঝাতে ব্যবহৃত হয়: my elder brother। বয়স্ক মানুষদের গোষ্ঠী বোঝাতে বলুন elderly people, older people বা the elderly। Older vs elder অনুশীলনে পার্থক্যটি বোঝানো হয়েছে।
My sister got married with a man from Canada.
সঠিক: My sister got married to a man from Canada অথবা married a man from Canada. Get married-এর পরে to লাগে, আর marry ক্রিয়ার পরে কোনো preposition লাগে না। Got married with someone একটি পরিচিত ভুল। Get married ও married to অনুশীলনে চর্চা করুন।
In modern society family become smaller.
সঠিক: In modern society, families are becoming smaller. Family গণনীয়। সাধারণভাবে পরিবারগুলোর কথা বললে বহুবচন দরকার, আর চলমান পরিবর্তন বোঝাতে are becoming। প্রতিষ্ঠান হিসেবে পরিবার বোঝালে the family is becoming smaller-ও বলা যায়।
এই ধরনের ভুল LetsWords কীভাবে বোঝায়

- spend with them more time → spend more time with them: প্রথমে কী ব্যয় করছেন (more time), তারপর কাদের সঙ্গে তা কাটাচ্ছেন।
Parents should set a good example for their children and spend more time with them.
কয়েক দিন পরে অভিব্যক্তিটি আবার অনুশীলনে আসে। তখন অন্য পরিস্থিতিতে ব্যবহার করেন, যেমন পরিবার কীভাবে বদলেছে তা নিয়ে Speaking-এর উত্তরে। এভাবেই তালিকার একটি collocation মনে করে ভুল ছাড়া ব্যবহারের মতো অভিব্যক্তি হয়ে ওঠে।
ভুলের বিশ্লেষণসহ অনুশীলন শুরু করুন
