Call off is a separable phrasal verb. A noun can go either after off (call off the picnic) or between call and off (call the picnic off). But a pronoun (it, them) only ever goes between the two parts: call it off, not call off it.
Call off means to cancel completely, while put off means to postpone. Compare: The match was called off — there's no match at all now; The match was put off until Sunday — it will still happen, just later. Call it a day is a separate expression, meaning to stop working for the day.
