Whereasは比較する節を、同じ文の中でもう一方の節につなぎます。この例のようにピリオドで切り離すと、whereas以降だけでは文が完成しません。そのためピリオドをコンマに替えて一文にします。
対比を表すwhileはwhereasと近い意味で、少し平易な響きです。I drink tea, while my husband drinks only coffee.と使えます。ただしwhileには「〜している間」という時間の意味もあります。Whereasはここでは対比だけを示します。またalthoughは、二つの側の違いより、予想に反する結果や事情を示す表現です。
