不带介词的 ask 常表示提问：ask a question、ask the way。想让别人给你或拿来某样东西时，需要 for：asked for the bill。因为 ask a question 的宾语直接跟动词，容易把这个结构错误套用到索要物品上。
这涉及问问题与提出请求的区别：ask the price 是问价格，ask for a discount 是请求降价。让别人做某个动作时，则不加 for：Ask him to call me back。
