Ask a question、ask the wayは質問する形です。一方、物を出してもらう・持ってきてもらう依頼ならforが必要で、asked for the billとします。質問の構文をそのまま依頼に使わないようにします。
Ask the priceは値段を知るための質問、ask for a discountは値引きの依頼です。人に行動を頼むならAsk him to call me back.で、この形にはforを付けません。
