If শর্ত ও পরোক্ষ প্রশ্ন দুটোই পরিচয় করাতে পারে। কিন্তু বাক্যের শুরুতে এখানে অর্থটি পছন্দ করুন বা না করুন, পরীক্ষার দিন বদলাবে না। সেই অর্থে whether … or not লাগে, if … or not নয়।
পরোক্ষ প্রশ্নে if ও whether প্রায়ই বিনিময়যোগ্য: I asked if the shop was open. কিন্তু to + verb-এর আগে whether লাগে: whether to stay. Preposition-এর পরেও whether ব্যবহার করুন: It depends on whether he agrees. আনুষ্ঠানিক লেখায় whether সাধারণত বেশি মানানসই।
