修改原因
修改前Petrol prices rose sharply, thus many people switched to public transport.
修改后Petrol prices rose sharply; thus, many people switched to public transport.
容易把 thus 当成 and 或 so，只用逗号连接两个完整句子。但 thus 不能这样充当连接词；这里前面需要句号或分号，后面通常加逗号：sharply; thus, many people。
作文中，therefore 和 thus 经常可以互换。但 thus 还有一个实用结构：逗号后接 thus + -ing，说明某个行动带来的结果：Prices fell, thus making flats more affordable。这里 thus 相当于“并由此”。
