Research 在这里像 information 一样不可数，不加 a，也很少用复数，因此原句删去 a。需要表示某一项具体研究时，可以说 a study 或 a research project。
学术写作中，常用 carry out 或 conduct 代替 do：The team carried out research into sleep and memory。Research 也可以作动词：She researched the topic for months。
