Revision: meaning, examples and revision vs audit

Revision means changes to a text or plan, and for British students, studying before exams. What to call a tax audit and why exam revision isn't repetition.

A revision is a change made to a text or plan after looking at it again: revisions to the contract. In a more formal sense, it can mean reconsidering ideas or rules. In British English, revision is also going over what you have studied before an exam. An official check of accounts and documents is an audit, and a check on site is an inspection.

Cambridge Dictionary

Revising for exams is a British meaning. In the US, people say review or simply studying: I need to review for my finals. The same goes for the verb: in Britain, revise for an exam means to study for it, while in American English revise only means to correct or improve something.

revision — Before exams, you go over what you have studied, and in British English that's revision. Repetition means doing or saying the same thing again, such as a word or a movement, and it isn't used about preparing for exams.

Write about how you are preparing for an exam or how you prepared for your last one. Name the exam and say how much time a day you spent going over the material.

Before my driving theory test, I did about an hour of revision every day for two weeks.
