What changed
First version— How are you? — Normal, thanks. And you?
Revision— How are you? — I'm fine, thanks. And you?
Normal seems to mean “all right”, so Normal, thanks can look like a fine reply. But normal describes a person: I'm normal means “I'm an ordinary, normal person”, not “I'm doing well”. To How are you?, people reply I'm fine, I'm OK or Not bad.
When someone offers you something, I'm fine, thanks is a polite “no, thank you”: More tea? — I'm fine, thanks. It's a refusal, not a report on how you feel. And I'm fine with Friday means “Friday suits me”.
