Enough is enough meaning: when patience finally runs out

Stop, I've had it: Enough is enough. It sounds like stating the obvious, but it's a final warning. And the shorter It's enough means something else entirely.

Enough is enough means 'this has to stop, I've had enough'. You say it when something bad has gone on too long and your patience is gone: Enough is enough. Please stop calling after midnight. It sounds firm and often angry. When you tell the story later, the tense changes: we decided that enough was enough.
