I vs me: the difference, examples and practice

I is the person doing the action, me is the one it's done to. My husband and I or my husband and me, why people answer Me! and what comes after than.

I is the person doing the action and comes before the verb; me comes after a verb or a preposition: I called Tom. Tom called me. Short answers also use me, not I: Who's there? It's me.

I or me — can you pick the right one?

RevisionAnna invited my husband and me to her wedding in June.

After the verb invited you need me, even when there's another person next to it. It's easy to check: remove my husband. Anna invited I sounds clearly wrong, so with my husband you need me too. Some people use and I everywhere because it seems more polite, but after a verb it's a mistake.

Cambridge Dictionary

After than, people say me in conversation: She's older than me. Than I without a verb sounds very formal, but with a verb it's perfectly normal: She's older than I am.
